conversations with oscar

Sampling a buckeye before leaving a few out for Santa…

Oscar:  Mmmm, I love bug eyes!

After running to stand under the mistletoe…

Oscar:  Uh-oh, I’m under the mister-toe!

Tucking him in bed Christmas Eve…

Oscar:  Mommy, I’m so exciting!

Talking about how yesterday was Daddy’s special day…

Oscar:  It is Daddy’s birthday, we need to celebrate his cake.

Maggie:  Daddy doesn’t really like cake, but we are going to make him a cherry pie.

Oscar:  But… I like cake.

Maggie:  Do you think the baby will be a boy or a girl?

Oscar:  A boy.

Maggie:  What should we name it?

Oscar:  Baby Daddy.

About 1,000 times as he opened presents on Christmas day…

Oscar:  Oh…my…cow.  Oh…my…holy…cow.

Sharing his excitement over the loot he received from Santa…

Oscar:  Santa was wistening to me!

There are, understandably, at least a few times a day this peanut has us cracking up.  He’s a hoot!

happy birthday, fraz

Today we are celebrating the best Daddy and husband we could’ve ever asked for.

He takes such good care of us,

is lots of fun,

and makes us all laugh each day!

Happy birthday, Fraz!  We love you lots!

christmas morning

We had a wonderful Christmas Day yesterday!  Santa sure knocked it out of the park for one little boy this year, and Evelyn enjoyed box and bow heaven on her first Christmas.

Image

We didn’t expect it, but we had to wake Oscar up at 7 so we could have plenty of time at home before heading to Mamaw and Papaw’s house.  I couldn’t even count how many times we heard Oscar say, “Oh my cow” or “Oh my holy cow” in his excitement, and was very helpful to Evelyn opening her presents.

We are excited to build a cement truck, just like Papaw’s!

We then loaded up and headed down to celebrate with Mamaw, Papaw, 8 aunts and uncles, and 11 cousins.  The kiddos got lots of lovin’ from everyone and played hard until they crashed when we loaded up to come home.

Someone is great at rocking her new rocking chair!

Oscar had lots of fun playing wii with Jake!

We celebrate with Nana and Pops on Sunday, but today we play and stay in jammies.

christmas eve

Tonight we got scrubbed up for church,

Imageand put out cookies for Santa.

ImageWhen did this boy get so big?

I do not know who is more excited for The Old Fat Fella to come, Oscar or his parents.

out of the mouths of babes

“Today in the town of David, a savior has been born.  He is the Messiah. Luke 2:11”

Likes: yanking bows off Christmas presents, playing on the floor, sitting herself up, playing rough with O, dancing back and forth in her highchair

Dislikes: when Greg or I walk out of the room, being bundled up, when we put anything on her poor little chapped cheeks (thanks, drool and bitter cold)

children’s program

Last night Oscar participated in the children’s music program at our church.  He’s been singing the songs each Sunday in his class for a while, belting them out in the car, and has been so excited to sing on stage like Daddy.

Can you find him?  Third row up.  He’s the one in red. 😉

He sang at first…

but quickly became more interested in watching the big screens…

and picking his nose.

He must’ve felt pretty comfortable up there.

mommy’s little helpers

I think because we read the Gingerbread Man at least once a day, Oscar has been asking for a few days to make one.  I don’t know if he secretly hoped his would spring out of the oven and run around the house, but he sure enjoyed making and eating the treats yesterday!

“Mommy, look at my shirt!  I’m like a bakery!”

Today (since the kiddos played what we lovingly refer to as “nap tag”) I had some help folding laundry while big bro napped.

ImageThey may both just be trying to get on the nice list, but I’ll take the help!

snowing, sleighing, i mean sledding

It has been called all three by our little man.  Call it what you want, this boy loves it!  Even better, our friends across the street have the perfect Oscar-sized hill.

The two of us were out nearly an hour, going down on bellies, racing, spinning on the saucer, and any other way you can possibly sled.  Finally, I thought he needed to go in and thaw, plus Mama needed a snack.  Fifteen minutes later he and Daddy were bundling up to head back out again.

photoIf it were up to him he would keep snowing

and sleighing

and sledding until the cows came home, which is a long time when you live in the suburbs.

I think I know someone who will take a good nap today!  Oscar too!

christmas at the zoo

Tonight we visited Santa and Mrs. Claus at the zoo.  Due to the weather, we didn’t have to wait at all to talk to the “old fat feller”, as my Papaw called him.

As excited as Oscar was, and as talkative as he was with Santa last year, I was surprised that he was a little timid this year.  He had no trouble telling Santa he wanted the Hi Ho Cherry-O board game, and superhero things though.

How did Evelyn do?  Let’s just say she barely held it together for Santa…

ImageImage

But she downright hated when Mrs. Claus wanted to hold her!
